ARASHREE’s
PICNIC

Arashree Padhy

Picnic, Arashree Padhy, 2024.

Concept Note:
My entire childhood has passed in front of the television box. Those 30 minutes of watching Cartoon Network, Hungama and Disney Channel while having lunch were the happiest
moments of my childhood. I loved them so much that I still know the channel numbers by heart.

I understand now that humans are complex and it is much easier for someone to love non-existent characters who will always be portrayed in a certain way. However, as a child, I was not so kind as to forgive my parents and all other blood relatives or consider them my own family. As a child, I wanted comfort and affection and the fictional characters delivered
just that. I grew up with them and looked up to them and wanted to be just like them. Today, if I think of family, I think of those characters and how those 30 minutes of watching them felt like a hug.

I consider myself very lucky to have such an adorable and beautiful family. They have shaped me. I am too soft at heart since I was raised by Oswald. Baymax taught me to be an
empath and Shin Chan taught me how to have fun. I have never fit in anywhere and that is okay since I fit in perfectly with my amazing family.

Hence, presenting to you my original family picture from the day we went on a picnic together on a sunny yet breezy Sunday at Cubbon Park. This picture has a permanent place
in my heart and my living room. Forever.
