Tar SticksSudhiksha Innanje
 - poetry + illustration

Pretty generic will be the following assertions:

the smell of tar is growing more visible by the day (you live in a city)
I started smoking out of curiosity at first (not peer pressure; I was always fascinated by smoking sticks)
nothing unique at all.
the smell of tar means nothing if it means accessibility! (you live in a city)
but it collects in your lungs! (no one told me the sticks had tar too)
The usual pattern along these lines goes down the rabbit hole; to be honest (very pathetic)
I had control.
I have control I have control I have control it means nothing!
I wish.
Am I finding comfort in being a coward? No, I did that by convincing myself it's my pretty little secret.
I love tar now!
But what about myself?
Hey, I might not love myself but I don't hate myself.
HAHA YOU WISH!
I have lost the one thing I liked about myself. I'm right with it in all honesty but;
I AM GOING TO BE COMING ACROSS ONLY
MYSELF WHEN I'M NOT OKAY (the city and sticks will only spectate me)
And that's going to be every passing second here.

Artist’s NoteThrough the metaphor of tar, this piece intricately weaves together themes of temptation, consequence, control, and isolation—all framed within urban imagery. This interplay portrays urban life as a delicate balance between fleeting pleasures and enduring challenges. It invites readers to reflect on their experiences within similar environments, encouraging contemplation about how our choices shape our identities amidst the complexities and contradictions inherent in city living. Ultimately, this aims to serve as a poignant reminder that while urban life offers myriad opportunities for exploration and enjoyment, it also demands careful navigation through its inherent risks and rewards This often proves to be very challenging, and one can easily lose themselves.
BioSudhiksha is a law student fascinated by the works of people like Gasper Noe and Kathy Acker. She desperately tries exploring pieces that strip away civilised facades, revealing our raw, animalistic nature. For Sudhiksha, every new piece of knowledge, every artwork, and every opportunity to help brings her closer to her idea of a life well-lived.
